ALPACA / cotton

The Alpacas are the most numerous of the four South American camelids. With a population of about 3.5 million head in Peru (about 75% of the global total) the Alpacas are the main livelihood for thousands of families who breed high Andes to sell its fiber, which is sheared annually, and also take advantage of their meat, fur and leather.

To add charm to this natural fiber, alpacas have an impressive range of colors including all ranges from white to black and gray and brown, which avoids the addition of color. The fiber is classified by hand according to his finesse in grades such as the Royal Alpaca (less than 19 microns), Baby Alpaca (22.5 microns), Super Fine Alpaca (26.0 microns), Huarizo (28.0 microns), Gross (32.0 microns ) And Mixed Pieces (short fibers usually about 30.0 microns)

The alpaca fiber is a fiber protein in nature, consisting of fiber corticoid (fine) and hair, fiber-type marrow high caliber. To define the fiber of alpaca fiber as a kind of protein, it is natural that its quantitative characteristics (weight of the fleece) and qualitative (fineness and length) are governed by genetic and environmental factors.

The name "alpaca" has become synonymous with fiber quality in the world of haute couture, which is not unfounded, because its fiber has proved to be one of the most heat and antiallergic, can only be overcome by the Vicuña.
